International Women's Day 2012

Every year on 8 March, JHC celebrates International Women's Day by hosting a flagship programme consisting of round-tables, exhibitions and cultural events in Janakpur with the women artists that highlight issues relating to the empowerment of women and the promotion of Mithila Art.

This year JHC has brought the celebration overseas to U.S with a new theme to encourage women. The theme of this year's programme is "Make a chain of help: pathway for women to make change". It mirrors key elements to support the women empowerment programme conduct by JHC and make contribution to City of Hope to fight against breast cancer.

For the women of the world, International Women’s Day is not only an occasion to review how far we have come in our fight for equality, peace and development, but also an occasion to mobilize for sustainable change.

It is a celebration of the achievements and contributions of each to the collective objective of gender equality and we hope that their commitment, determination and achievements set an inspiration for others.

About Store for Causes

Store for Causes was founded by JHC with three goals in mind. First, to raise awareness about social issues through fashion and gift items , second to raise money for humanitarian causes like Beggars Trust and third but very important to give employment oppertunities to women living in thrid world countries like Nepal. Below is information on our non-profit Beggars trust as well as a few other non-profits that carry ideals that are very dear to Janakpur Handicraft Center. We encourage you to explore their causes and know that a percentage of your purchase goes toward them.

Beggars Trust is a non-for profit trust of Janakpur Handicraft Center in Nepal with a focus on helping poor women in the country who are living their lives by begging on streets and temples. Many of these women are victimized and harassed by society and are scared to speak out against the guilty. Beggars trust works with these women in helping to provide them with counsel, employement based trainings, financial assistance and also give employment oppertunity. We work with these women in not only by giving employment oppertunities, but also making sure that there are able to live their lives well in future.
